The Keeper of the Forest — Mālama Wao Akua

The Keeper of the Forest honors the deep relationship between the Hawaiian people and the wao akua—the upland forest realm, a place of life, resources, and profound cultural significance.

This design represents the responsibility of walking gently upon the ʻāina and taking only what is needed, always with respect and gratitude. The forest provides plants, wood, feathers, food, medicine, and countless other resources, but with those gifts comes the kuleana to care for and protect them.

The imagery celebrates the knowledge passed down by our kūpuna—the understanding of the plants, birds, waters, and rhythms of the forest, and the importance of preserving that ʻike for generations to come.

At the heart of the design are the words:

“E mālama i ka wao.”
Care for the forest.

It is a simple but powerful reminder that we are not merely visitors to the ʻāina. We are its caretakers.

Printed on a soft Allmade Tri-Blend shirt, each shirt incorporates material made from six recycled plastic bottles, reflecting the same spirit of mālama by making a more thoughtful choice for our environment.

We walk softly where our kūpuna walked.
