The Provider — Mālama Kai

The Provider honors the generations who have looked to the ocean not simply as a source of food, but as a living relationship built on knowledge, respect, gratitude, and responsibility.

From the kai comes nourishment. Through generations of observation and experience, our kūpuna understood when to gather, what to take, and when to allow the ocean to replenish. Providing for ʻohana meant having the skill to harvest from the sea while also carrying the kuleana to protect it.

At the heart of this design is the message:

“Mālama i ke kai, a mālama ke kai iā ʻoe.”
Care for the ocean, and the ocean will care for you.

The imagery of the fisherman, fresh catch, powerful waves, and Hawaiian coastline represents abundance balanced with restraint—taking only what is needed, giving thanks for what is received, and ensuring the kai can continue to provide for generations yet to come.

Printed on a soft Allmade Tri-Blend shirt, each shirt incorporates material made from six recycled plastic bottles, extending the spirit of mālama beyond the artwork itself through a more thoughtful choice for our environment.
